Welcome!

It feels a little...mad here, doesn't it? Well, that's the nature of a Faerie Ring!

Short Story Revisited - Winter

I recently joined an online writing critique community called LegendFire and so far I'm having fun and learning lots about my craft.  I've posted two of my short stories already and have revised one - Winter.  I believe the story is now quite improved, though it probably could still use a little more revision (doesn't all art, though, from the eyes of the artist?).  Anyway, here's the revised version!

Rating: G
Genre: Supernatural Flash Fiction
Word Count: 875
Author's Comments: This is an older piece of mine (like 2009 old).  I was inspired by the song "Old Tennessee" by Dan Fogelberg and a piece of art by a friend at the time.  Revised from original - it may still be a tad bit description-heavy, but I feel it reads better.

Winter
I woke this morning to the sound of wind in the trees - winter was coming.  Sitting up, I closed the window from that crisp autumn breeze and chanced a peek outside.  It was nearing the end of October, and the woods already started to look sleepy, confirming what the wind had already told me.  I blew into my cupped hands to warm them briefly before clasping the metal handle and, giving it a good shove, closed the window on the dulling world outside for the last time this year.
Needing a good cup of tea to start my morning, I rose, shivering slightly as I made my way to the kitchen.  Glancing at my boxes of teas lining the wall of the counter, I decided none of them looked appetizing.
Sighing, I turned to the small wooden table littered with sheaves of paper and empty mugs from days bygone.  Many of the dirtied mugs still had strings stained brown and gray hanging limply from their lips.  I grabbed my heavy deerskin coat from the back of the chair, holding it slightly aloft as I struggled with the flannel one underneath it.  Finally managing to free the lighter jacket, I shrugged it on, carefully laying the deerskin one back on the chair, and made my way to the back door.
I walked out into the garden, the rusty metal hinges creaking as I pushed the weathered wooden gate open just enough for me to sidle thorough and make a drowsy beeline to the little patch near the house that I reserved for my herbs.  I bent down, smelling the aroma of the earth from the sweet morning dew.  Most of the herbs were beginning to fade, the dead-brown color creeping up their little stems, infiltrating their leaves. I gingerly sniffed the chamomile, letting it's warmly pungent spice scent soothe my nostrils – it was still fresh.  I grabbed a handful.

As I was dusting the earth from my thick cotton pants, I stopped short while there was a flash of yellow in my peripheral.  I looked up in time to see a gust of wind burst forth from behind the woods. The leaves rolled in a splendid wave of yellow and red and orange then came to land, scattered, about my feet and the garden in a wet, brown mass.
I turned my gaze back to the forest where gray clouds were lumbering onto the sad yellow sky. And there.  Lightning.  Quick as an arrow.  A few moments bated breath, and, there.  The deep growl of the thunder shook a few jittery leaves from the trees.  They fell, fluttering wildly, to the ground.  A wolf stood at the edge of the forest.
What an awe-inspiring specimen!  The wolf was pure white and stood perfectly still, its ears erect and tail completely relaxed.  It was slightly larger than a regular wolf, and it was facing me.  A chill wracked my spine and I shivered, dropping a chamomile plant.  It made a small plop as it hit the mud right as another lightning bolt ripped across the sky.  The wolf and I shared an abyssal glance before the thunder came lumbering through in another tree-shaking guttural moan.
The wolf slowly turned its majestic head to the sky as more leaves fluttered off their branches, flashing orange and red.  And then, the beast began to change.
It rippled from head to tail and its snow-white body began to warp and stretch.  The neck and legs were elongating at an alarming rate and the skin underneath the fur was a pale translucence. Swirls of ethereal teal light swam around under the blindingly white fur.  The wolf began panting slightly, it's pink tongue poking in and out of it's mouth like a gopher tasting the air.
The wolf, at this point, barely resembled any worldly creature.  I continued to stare, awestruck.  It raised it's enormous head higher and opened it's huge crocodile jaws to the stormy October sky.  It whipped it's willowy tail once and, with an ear shattering and Earth rumbling crack of bright blue lightning, it was gone.
I held my breath, and my ground, waiting for the tremors of thunder to pass.  The forest gave one last shudder, and then everything was still.
I wanted to flee back inside – my clothes were damp and my feet were cold, but another low, distant rumble of thunder stopped me.  I looked up into the gray sky, bidden by the deep call. Instinctively, I shaded my eyes with the palm of my free hand as the sky became intensely bright.  I continued to stare as my vision slowly returned in tiny, glistening specks.  I blinked once, slowly, and was kissed by snowflakes.
I opened my eyes to see the dancing white flakes in the air.  They drifted onto the trees and the leaves and the earth, covering it with a sparkling frost.  They touched down silently around me.

The spell was soon broken as my focus shifted to a piercing, distant noise - the kettle was boiling.
I moved back toward the house haltingly, as if awakened from a dream.

But as I crossed the threshold from outside into kitchen, I found myself facing the white, white winter outside.

Inspirational Alchemical Lyrics

So, in this last post of mine, I mentioned some song lyrics from Revolutionary Girl Utena that inspired me.  I think I'll type them up here to share them and inspire me further!

"Time is hypothetical, illusory.
A stage device that we create the moment we are born.
Destiny, choices, goodbye.
You & I are the Milky Way.
We have no past, no future, only now.
All alone in the Universe, in the cosmic theatre.
That's me!  Wait!  My last evolution, revolution, everlution!"

"Universal light.  Mosaic light.
Lucifer, son of the dawn.
Apocalyptic light.  Michael's light.
Androgynous son of darkness.
Flaming light, heavenly light.
The hierarchy of heaven.
Illusory light.  Eternal light.
Tricks of the mind.  Capricious birth.
Nicocus Erebus Uranus Thalantos
The globe of Gyunus shining with light.
Gyunus, in every way, born in miracles.
The pleasure principle.
The Nirvana principle.
The certainty of death mainly light.
Life is merely...
...the moving shadow of the living.
In the universe of the mind.
...the drifting shape of the living.
Light, temporary existence.
Seeking eternity, namely the folly...
...of returning to the beginning.
Two sexes, two poles, two of me.
Up, down, left, right, two of me.
Angel, devil, two sides of me.
Inside I'm hollow.  Inside I'm hollow.  Inside I'm hollow."

"Friendship
Choice
Reason
Love
Adoration
Conviction
Self
Revolution"

"The eternal opposing relationship
Between the two sides of a mirror
The ever-growing ambitions
And the fickle, cruel lies
Ahh...
Ah, people are nothing
Ah, within the darkness
Ah, the sound of waves
The light & the darkness
Both of them, both of them divide me!
Born alone, that's the reason
That I am, that I am divided!
Twins
Twins by duty
Twins by schemes
Twins who are absent
To see what can't be seen
A false world surfaces
Made of props & painted backdrops
A false world surfaces
Earth is just a trick made by man
Earth is just a ball of glass made by man
Earth is just"

I might post more creepy alchemically esoteric lyrics as I watch more episodes, if there are other dueling songs that give me chills!

Short Story - Inner Journey

Title: Inner Journey
Word count: 1,783
Rating: T/PG-13 (for mild swearing)
Genre: Fantasy/Paranormal Fiction
Background: Written in 2007/2008 and edited within the last year and a half, posted here now for enjoyment. This story came to me in the middle of the night out of nowhere; it's kind of cute, kind of strange, it's definitely got fey and also references the popular children's rhyme "Little Bunny Foo-Foo".

Inner Journey, by Kelsey Teresea

“I swear to god it was here yesterday!”  Victor shouted as he stood on the sidewalk, arms dangling by his side, mouth hanging open, with frown lines creasing his forehead.  He turned to the girl standing beside him, letting loose a sigh of agitation.

“Summer, you have to believe me! I was in that shop,” he practically shouted as he pointed to the dilapidated store front, “that shop, talking to a guy, just yesterday afternoon!”  His worry lines deepened on his forehead; they made him appear at least four years older than he was, and he was fairly young.

Summer fished around in her little painted canvas bag, peering with feigned interest over Victor’s shoulder at the broken windows and the dark interior of the shop.  Its dark blue banner still hung over the door - Inner Journey: Metaphysics, Magic, and Answers.

Solar Eclipse, continued

Good places to view the solar eclipse in Cali

Here's an article on where you can view the solar eclipse if you're in California (from our view it will only seem partial, but it will be awesome none-the-less).

As I said in my previous post, the eclipse is in 0 degrees Gemini & shall have great impact over mind at large. I believe we are entering a New Age - Aleister Crowley talks about the aeon of the Child or Ra-Hoor-Khuit (See the Book of the Law).

The moon (the child) shall dwarf the father (sun).

Speaking of Mr. Crowley, I found this passage from The Book of Lies:

37
Dragons

Thought is the shadow of the eclipse of Luna.
Samadhi is the shadow of the eclipse of Sol.
The moon and the earth are the non-ego and the ego: the sun is THAT.
Both eclipses are darkness; both are exceeding rare; the Universe itself is Light.

Book Review

Those that know me well will know that I am an avid bookworm (back when I worked in child development, my nickname was, no surprise, The Bookworm). I pretty much read instead of watching any sort of television (save for some movies & things on Netflix sometimes or currently Game of Thrones...but that doesn't really count because I read the A Song of Ice & Fire Series first). Because I have been reading since I can remember (I was reading before I was walking but I'm also told I was running & climbing before I was walking...hmm) I often challenge myself by visiting a library & wandering the isles until I find something strange & appealing in a slightly esoteric way & then I attempt reading it.

This is exactly what I did down at the Santa Clara City Library the other day - & then this book found me:

My first thought was that the cover really did not remind me of Merlin but, in fact, Severus Snape. I mean, look at it: lank greasy hair, hooked nose, slouching posture, worn robes sitting amidst a myriad of woodland flora. This is obviously our favorite Potions Master in disguise. Titillated, I was immediately drawn to the book (being the big, fat, steaming Snape fantwat I am) and I decided that I would find somewhere to sit & peruse the first few sentences.

The sentences turned into paragraphs, the paragraphs to chapters, & before I rightly knew, I was halfway through the book.

Apparently I had been waiting for this book my whole life & I didn't even know it.

But that's the beauty of it, really - I believe we are meant to read the exact books we read throughout our lives, in the exact order we happen to choose because we've already decided the things we would learn in this incarnation & the knowledge from certain books from certain authors is crucial, not only because is it expanding the current trail of knowledge crucial to our development at this point, but also because the authors we gravitate towards are part of our own incarnational timeline - we are all connected.

I felt immediately connected to Robert Nye's Merlin; it was an amalgamation of many other works I had read previously, almost like I had read all those things years ago to prepare for this novel. Merlin is a raunchy esoteric retelling of the tale of Merlin & the Knights & Ladies of the Round Table riddled with blackest of the black humour, which is only really funny if you're familiar with things like The Key of Solomon the King, The Goetia: The Lesser Key of Solomon the King, anything by Aleister Crowley & Freud, The Necronomicon, The Kybalion, anything at all about ritual magick, every tale about King Arthur & Merlin ever, works by H.P. Lovecraft & Drunvalo Melchizedek, creation myths, and, but not excluded to, religion & the false dichotomies propagated by religion. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart, those who can't laugh at indecent japes made at religion, those who feel uncomfortable with gratuitous sex & mentions of drug use, & those that do not understand the finer points of alchemy & transformations. It was the perfect book for me.

Nye's style is very poetic - the lines on the page look more like meter with rhyme than prose, but prose it is none-the-less; poetic prose as well as darkly snarky. He uses a lot of short sentences & sentence fragments to keep you in the now of the book, in Merlin's head but also outside of it (as Merlin himself is). The story seems to be written as the events are taking place but also after the fact - time is really an illusion for the reader just as it is for Merlin. The story weaves in and out of Merlin's life - from birth to imprisonment in his crystal cave - with a great cast of characters that most are intimately familiar with: Merlin, Lucifer, Beelzebub, Uther Pendragon, King Arthur, Guinevere, Sir Lancelot, Morgan le Fay, etc. The story is broken down into four parts or "books" - Black, White, Red, Gold - signifying the alchemical process of changing base matter into gold, which is, ultimately, what Merlin is seeking to accomplish through the exploration & manipulation of the human psyche & shadow.

Needless to say, I finished it in two days. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard during the reading of a book in a long while and I'll certainly be thinking about this for some time, such was its impact on me. I would give Robert Nye's Merlin not just a five-star-rating, but a five-pentacle-rating with the pentacles covered in glitter & arranged in a pentagram formation at the bottom of a pig-stye (the pig-stye where the spider Charlotte spins her web at least) - that's how awesome this was. A diamond in the rough. A bejeweled needle in a haystack.

Short Story - Consumption

Title: Consumption
Word Count: 1,062
Rating: T/PG-13 (for mild swearing)
Genre: Paranormal Fiction
Background: I wrote this short story back in 2009 or so. I dredged it up & edited it a bit & figured I'd post it for the hell of it. This was inspired by the Magistrate villain from the video game "Demon's Souls".

Consumption by Kelsey Teresea

"What do you want from me?!"  He grabbed the nearest heavy object - a candlestick - and threw it at the advancing man.  The candlestick stopped a few inches away from where the man's face would have been and fell to the floor with a loud clang.  It resonated like a tuning fork.

"Heh heh!" was all the man said.  It was all he ever said.  And it was maddening.

Comet Elenin Dream

Dream Journal, Entry 1

Day: Sunday, September 04, 2011

Time: Early morning, perhaps 7am or earlier, perhaps around 9am

The Dream:

In the dreamworld, I am always aware that I am me; I am very rarely, if ever, someone other than my current incarnation, Kelsey. I am not often aware of the presence of a physical body in the dreamworld however, but sometimes there are instances where I am made more aware of a body, like when I am having to run, or if I happened to get cut, etc. I am also able to recall information from other dreams while experiencing the current dream. This information can include previous dreamscapes, people, entities, objects gained, experience gained/something learned...you get the idea.

So when I began approaching the large, castle-like brick mansion, I knew that I had been there quite a few times previously. I remembered the sultry dark disturbances lying deep in the energies of its vast grounds. I remembered how, many years previously (time works differently in the dreamworld) I had assisted to bring down a being of darkness who resided in & controlled a significant portion of this huge estate. Now, however, I was free to walk in and about though not quite at my leisure for a sense of urgency hung over me.

Through huge double wooden doors I entered the manse and walked myself through hallway & corridor until I came to some stairs. The stairs led me to a battlement. I followed it along, not really planning where I was going, just knowing. There was something here that I needed, something here that I needed to see. The sky was becoming the color of twilight & I wasn’t really sure if it was dusk or dawn. Big grey clouds were beginning to lumber their way across the sky & a chill wind had started to pick up. I realized I had stopped to watch the fog roll in.

As I turned to complete my walk to the door behind which my destination (& my information) lay, I was startled to see a creature standing in my path. It was unlike any creature form Earth. I was not even sure if indeed it was a creature; it could very much well have been a being or entity. It was rather tall & spindly, & covered in plating - armour of sorts. It carried a tall, thin staff or spear made from the same metal as the metal covering the rest of its body, which shone with a warm bronze light. Its helmet reminded me of deep sea diver’s helmets from the 1930’s, though more streamlined, sleek, & aerodynamic.

Being stunned, I was frozen to the ground. It simply nodded slowly at me & I understood it to be there as a guard while I did this necessary work.

I entered through the door without another moment’s hesitation.

Inside, the room was pitch, save for a small hologram of our solar system in the center of the room. Walking closer, the hologram grew in size to envelop me within it. I was floating around amidst the planets, the sun, &, to my horror & wonder, some other large, dark, looming mass. I zoomed in on this mass. Even though I could not identify it by sight, I understood it to be the approaching comet Elenin.

It became frustrating trying to “see” the comet for from any angle all it appeared to be was this horrible, black, bulbous nothing with a drippy smudge of a tail. I wasn’t satisfied with this image. Still not entirely sure as to how I did this, I suddenly “shifted” within the hologram, I “gazed” differently at the comet &, lo & behold, the comet’s true nature was revealed to me.

Spinning towards our little green & blue planet was a breathtaking iridescent crystalline-fractal sphere of indigo light with five blue & green Earth-like planets following in gay procession behind it. I watched in mute fascination as the comet and it’s caravan formed a half-circle around our little planet - and then everything; me, Earth, the stars, the Universe; everything took a breath...

...and then I awoke.

Thoughts:

This dream is very puzzling to me. Like any amateur astronomer, I take a keen interest when a large body of space-rock is headed our way, and comet Elenin in particular has drawn much attention. Currently, there are many theories about the comet (or “Spaceship Elenin”, to give an idea of one viewpoint on the subject) and I certainly claim to have no real understanding, but this dream feels highly significant, not only because of my astrological interest on the matter, but my spiritual interest as well. This dream resonated with me. I suppose more research will have to ensue, and more dreaming.

Greetings

Hooray! I've done it! I have updated my blog! Here you shall find Kelsey Teresea's (that's me) sketch blog. Sketches may or may not include art doodles, finished art pieces, dreams, bits of writing blurbs, and, but not limited to, cool things in the artistic or esoteric nature.

For instance, here is a photograph of a faerie circle I encountered while hiking in the Santa Cruz mountains a few years ago:

Isn't it beautiful? Sadly, it has since been destroyed. If you cannot see it right away, there is a huddled group of trees in the almost background of the photograph; it is in a circle formation and ferns surround it.

Now, for all you artist-folk out there, here is a new-fangled device that bridges the transitional gap between traditional sketches & digital art:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fQe0YSLm88&feature=player_embedded

I think that is super exciting, personally.

I had a very intriguing dream last night! In short, I had gained access to some information about the approaching comet Elenin. I will elaborate on it in a later post - I must type it up in as much detail as I can remember, & that entails going into what I call my "writing state"; an almost meditative state where I can access information hiding in my un/sub-conscious (I mistyped 'sunconscious' initially...hmm!). Fun times!

A quiet, but knowledgeable bookworm in the day, my alternate identity is an artist. Since this is primarily a sketch blog, you may be wondering, where are the sketches? I will have sketches to post soon; I am on a temporary hiatus in that I may reorganize my old art, finish some pieces that need finishing, & photograph all these pieces so that I may be able to share them. (My deviantART page is also undergoing a whole transformation.) It's a process, but I am excited for the outcome. Until then, peace!
